About Kyle

I coach singers and actors through the pressure of getting a song right on a deadline, in the room, on mic or on the stage. Twenty years of experience across musical theater and contemporary styles, with a performance background of my own and specialized training in how the brain and body behave under performance stress. Most of my studio work is with people who need a song to have an impact, not a technique built over years.

My Story

I started as a musical theater performer, landing a spot in a top rated BFA program on the west coast. From there I starred in the original production of I Married Wyatt Earp and toured with shows such as Seussical (Gertrude) and Little Shop of Horrors (Audrey). I've performed alongside Broadway legends including Kristin Chenoweth and Carol Channing, and have had the privilege of performing at the Hollywood Bowl (A Night with the Stars), the Irvine Barclay (Fiddler on the Roof), and the Honda Center (Chicago).

A nerd at heart, I loved learning about the neurological side of singing and acting. Why are some performances electric while others fall flat? And I noticed that my happiness came even more from teaching and being of service than from performing.

I was an instructor for SoCal Theater Experience for about ten years, worked at Amber Light Studios, the highest rated studio in Los Angeles, for three, and have been running my own studio for six. I train musical theater and contemporary styles, using traditional vocal pedagogy, functional neuroanatomy, and somatic facilitation to help singers unlock the freedom, power, and control in their instrument.

I live in Los Angeles and work from a home studio, with my best girl Andie usually asleep in the yard.

The Method

Functional neuroanatomy

Your voice doesn't take its cue from your throat. It decides how free and easy it can feel based on your nervous system. The brain is constantly taking in information about balance, vision, breath, and where your body is in space, and it will quietly restrict your voice if any of that information feels unreliable. That's why a singer can absolutely nail something in the practice room and then lose it on stage: the setting changed, the perceived threat changed, so the body reacts by trying to protect, often by tightening or restricting. Because if it thinks there's a threat, singing is kind of the last thing it wants to do. Working here means training the inputs the brain uses to decide how much freedom to give you, so your instrument stays available even when the stakes get higher and the environment changes.

Traditional Vocal Pedagogy

This is the craft side of singing: breath, vowel structure, resonance, articulation, the mechanics that have been studied and refined over generations of teachers who found the most effective and easiest ways to produce vocal function and quality. It's how we build range, find the places where your voice wants to shift gears, find your power and dynamics, and make the sound consistent enough that you can count on it. Without this layer, a singer is relying on instinct alone, which works, up until the day it doesn't. Pedagogy is what turns a good day into a repeatable process.

Psychosomatic Facilitation

The practical and real part of what's actually happening in your body when you sing, not just what you'd like to be happening. Old bracing patterns live in the jaw, the ribs, the diaphragm, and under pressure they show up as a tight sound, a shallow breath, a held back high note. Under perceived threat, the body prioritizes protection over expression, and singing is expression. Facilitation gives those patterns somewhere to go instead of trying to override them with effort, so the voice you've trained is the voice that shows in performance.
